Become a Hero of Mangara
Who was your hero growing up? Superman, Batman, or Spiderman? As kids everyone wanted to play the good guy, the hero to rescue the damsel in distress, to shoot the bad guys and be the hero of the town. Well, now you can be the hero in “Heroes of Mangara” from Nox Games. “Heroes” plays as both an RPG and a tower defense game.
Heroes of Mangara contains 20 different classes of enemies. Your heroes can be leveled up with an extremely slick skill system. And the developers even added a talent system that lets you decide your particular talent t the beginning and hone that talent as you progress. Your challenges increase as you level your heroes up. You are also provide with a spellbook and of course, the obligatory mana system.
As you and your heroes travel through the many lands of Mangara, you will be challenged by beasts and orcs and the undead. To free these lands, you must wage war and defeat these enemies. Doing so will give you necessary skill points, new spells and abilities that you can apply to your heroes.
The game play is simple. Build towers, place your heroes in those towers. Your heroes kill enemies as they pass and you level those heroes up as you can. You will have spells you can cast that will slow enemies down or kill them altogether. I recommend using those spells only when you really need them. The game contains a very nice opening tutorial and lays out the games mechanics perfectly. The tutorial also introduces you to your first two heroes, an archer and a druid. And as the game progresses you can hire apprentices to both classes to level up and help you reach your goals.
While “Heroes” is similar to Villainous, the strategic and role playing tactics set it apart from many other tower defense games. The overall look and feel of “Heroes” is provided by some very nice graphics and that adds to the medieval ambience the game presents. “Heroes” is supported by a very “big” soundtrack. It’s orchestrated nicely and feels very ominous throughout the game.
Surprisingly, as of this review, the game hasn’t received a sponsor. That shouldn’t stop anyone from playing. In fact, I feel Nox Games wasn’t constrained by a publisher or sponsor when building Heroes of Mangara and that is a good thing. There’s not much more to say other than to give it a whirl.
