Anyone with a website has a website ever tried to have his own website has one day faced the deadly cold no reader phase it’s the same for everyone, it’s happens to me all the same.
Why is it so important to have traffic? Well if you go through the pain of creation a website, it’s obviously because you have the desire to talk about something, Share ideas or skills that you have.
For me I do it for two main reasons. I like to write little guides or tips for things I spend time searching. Sometime it is tools I’ve been looking for a long time, sometime things I struggle to make work. I figure that if I needed to spend some time on it, it’s not worth it to make it lost again, an someone else has to start searching over again. The other reason is … well my memory is not that good and sometime I search for things, and as the time pass I tend to forget and have to go through the process all over again. At least when it’s written I know where to find it.
Now let’s get back to our subject. Everybody wants traffic. The web is alive with marketers and thugs that want to sell you their magic elixir to get traffic. Some are legit, some more suspicious. A lot of them are traffic exchange site. Basically the principle is, you click on one of my links and I’ll click on one of yours. The ratio is not always (rarely) 1:1. This is nice, but there is one problem. It requires time, a lot of time. And anybody with a full time job doesn’t necessarily have 3 hours to spend a day to click on link, everyday to get more traffic. Moreover the traffic you would get that way isn’t real traffic. People just pass through, it artificially inflates your traffic. It is just an illusion.
And what worse to me is, as soon as you stop doing that the traffic goes away. Think of it as if you’re rowing on a boat … if you stop … well that’s the end of the trip. Now don’t go any further.
Now that i told you what is bad, what the solution to this? Well I found a site called Blogrush which seems to be a nice alternative to those traffic builder.
It’s free. You have read correctly. And it’s not free because there’s a trick behind. It doesn’t display any add. Only thing it does is display links to other sites on yours. It’s not a big deal, after all, you’re expecting other sites to have links pointing you yours. It seems fair to me.
It’s effortless. It takes only a few minutes to set it up, and you’re done you, well you just have to wait for it to do it’s magic. It doesn’t require any efforts.
How does it work? The principle is quite close to the pyramid chain. First you add a little widget like the one you see on the border of this blog. Then whenever someone comes to your blog it earns you some credits. Let’s say you get 10 visitors, you’ll get 10 credits. It means 10 other website will add links to your articles. On top of that they have a system of bonus credit, which are given to help small sites to start.
And then what? Then that it, it’s as simple as that. All you have to do is to concentrate on what you initially intended … writing about what you like on your site/blog.
It works. I can see you wondering, how the hell to how know? First of all, once you’ve created your account, when you go to your dashboard, you can see a few interesting things. You can see how much credit you have, what post you’ve post and how many times they’ve been displayed.
Finally if for some reasons, it does not work for you, you would have only lost five minutes. I don’t see that as a risky investment, and certainly worth a try for the result you can get in return.

Creating software product pages that sell is not easy. More often than not, copy writers and designers get enamored with powerful features and forget to actually sell the product. This should not be surprising, after all software is the closest thing to real magic human beings have ever experienced. So, what should software marketers do? Focus on the basics and one magic word: “you.”
People like to be the center of attention. If you want to sell more software, the most powerful magic word in your vocabulary isn’t empower, cost-cutting, value, ROI or even secure: it’s “you”. It’s mere incantation connects your message to the reader’s dreams, hopes and aspirations. Avoid using unfriendly, dehumanizing and even insulting words like user, knowledge worker, operator, and customer. Use the words “you, your and your company” liberally. People like it when you talk about them. It’s also easier to read. Compare:
Bad: ePower iEnabler empowers users to unlock the traffic building potential of RSS to drive more sales from websites.
Good: ePower iEnabler generates web sales by putting the power of RSS to work for you.
The best software pages start with a powerful description of the software product. Describe your product as succinctly and simply as possible – and in language your user will understand. Follow that by describing the outcomes or benefits using your software delivers. Clearly articulate any technical features that make a buying decision easy – if you product requires the buyer own another software package or is compatible with a market leader, your should call attention to it. Finish by clearly explaining pricing or at least how to get pricing from your sales team. People rarely buy anything when they don’t know what it costs.
Example:
BusinessPro Plus XP makes it easy to bill your customers and collect money on time. With one click you can export invoices from QuickBooks or Peachtree accounting and BusinessPro Plus does the rest of the work from delivering the invoice to collecting from slow paying customers.
Just $199.00 per workstation, per month.
Software screen shots and box shots make your product more tangible and familiar to buyers. If, and only if, your product is simple and easy to use, screen shots with captions or bubbles are a great way to help the reader visualize themselves using the software. Box shots make your software product seem tangible and as real as a box of candy instead of an ethereal collection of invisible computer instructions. The box shot is so powerful that client we’ve had add a box shot to their site has seen sales go up between 5% and 14%!
Notice how up until now there has been not one discussion of features? It’s all been about the big picture. Now it’s time to make a choice: do we show benefits or a competitive comparison? The answer is easy: if your product gets more check marks for features that matter to buyers than your competitors, then go with a features vs. the competition. If no one has a clue what your software features do or you don’t stack up well against the competition, don’t sweat it, you are in good company (Microsoft, Quicken and other household brands of software often are feature deficient compared their competitors). Instead of highlighting your weakness or creating a disingenuous feature comparison, use a benefit/feature or feature/benefit chart. Features do tasks. Benefits tell what those tasks do for your buyer – using the word “you” liberally.
Now for the bad news: You can talk all day about your product but have no real credibility. That is because you are selling your own product – and people generally rank salespersons as slightly more credible and trustworthy than politicians or a hungry python. That is why it is essential that you take any kind of third party acknowledgment and put it on your site. It makes a real difference when someone else says your great. For example, if your product or company receives and award, add the icon or picture of the award to your page. Link to their write up. Quote their write up. If you earn a numeric rating like 4.5 stars, five cows, 10 platinum mice put the picture on the page and a link to the awarding websites write up. If a review or article is posted, even if it’s a verbatim run of a press release, find the most favorable statement in the article and quote it.
Client testimonials, particularly when combined with an actual picture of a smiling happy customer provide powerful credibility. There is a huge different between a testimonial from “George in Texas” to “George Keller, Alpharetta, Ga” and George allowing you to use his name and picture. The picture means George is willing to literally stand up and be identified as a fan of your product.
Now that you have a page that says clearly what your software does, what’s in it for you, the buyer, differentiates itself and is clearly validated by a third party, it’s time for the golden rule. He who follows this rule gets the gold: your product page must have at least one if not three offers or calls to action. Web pages do not sell if there is no offer or call to action. An offer is “Buy today and receive…” “Get a 30 day FREE demo” or “Free Needs Analysis”. A call to action can be as simple as “Download” or “Buy Now” or “Find out if BusinessPro Plus XP is right for you”.
Once your software product page has all of the basics, here are some ways to kick your page’s persuasiveness up and sell more:
Animated Mini Demos can explain your products key features quickly and help people internalize that they could actually operate your software because it looks easy. Produce short 15-60 second clips that cover one or two key features. Avoid 10 minute flash demo extravaganzas. People don’t even watch TV for 10 minutes anymore without changing the channel.
Live Chat or “Call Me Now” buttons can be a powerful way to connect with customers on the fence about trying or buying your product.
Special Offers for be-backers (people who have visited your website in the past few months) can help take fence sitters to the next step (call, try or buy).
Remember that the basics are what really sell. Animation, live chat, and special offers are great ways to improve your sales – but deliver about 5% of what getting the basics right will deliver for you.
In December 2010, I had the honour of organising a Strategic Decision Making Experiential Programme for 200+ Bristol-Myers Squibb Sales Leaders in Xiamen, China. This was part of their annual meeting where more than 1,000 of their staff are involved.
The hotel which hosted our segment of the activities was Crowne Plaza Paragon Xiamen, and all I can say is that we are absolutely impressed with how they created a “wow” MICE experience, not just for the client, but also for event organisers like us.
To start off, as the activity involves more than 200 participants, it was also quite a logistical challenge for us as we had to ship the equipment and costumes from Shanghai to Xiamen. Since we need to handover the costumes to the participants the day before our event, we needed some space to hold on to those 250 sets of costumes.
Hence, we approached the hotel concierge and asked if they could help us find some space for the costumes. Since the space required was quite substantial, the concierge said he had to consult management, and will get back to us in 5 minutes.
Exactly 5 minutes later, we got a reply. Due to insufficient space, the concierge area could not hold our costumes. However, the hotel could provide their Reception Lounge right next to their meeting rooms and ballrooms. And we can even arrange our participants to pick up their costumes at that Reception Lounge, which was available till 10 p.m. that evening.
That’s not all. Despite handling 200+ of our participants, the hotel still had other MICE bookings that day too, and it has to make sure that all its guests have a wow experience regardless.
When we returned from our experiential training activities, ALL 200+ participants were crowding around the lift lobby, and some of the hotel guests could not get on the lifts to their rooms. Fortunately, the staff at the hotel were present to direct traffic so as to ease the jam, and pacify agitated guests.
That’s not all. Since our participants were on a tight schedule to check out, return their costumes, have lunch and then catch their flights, we needed these processes to be handled smoothly. The hotel provided a temporary check-out counter right beside the ballroom where lunch will be taking place. They also provided another meeting room for us to collect the costumes from the participants.
Hence, our participants could just check out, deposit their luggage, return their costumes, have lunch and then fly out without leaving the hotel’s conference area. Ample hotel staff were around to give directions so that we don’t run into the wrong rooms and disrupt other people’s events. We were simply amazed at the efficiency and service quality of the hotel staff, who could still accommodate our demands with a smile all the time.
Ultimately, I don’t think that the client will return to the same city for their events anytime soon, to event organisers like us, we definitely know whom we can count on to provide more than just accommodation, F&B and meeting rooms for our future events in Xiamen.
In this regard, I thank the General Manager of the Crowne Plaza Paragon Xiamen, Mr. Magandran Suppiah for helping us deliver a “wow” experience for our clients. Mr. Suppiah and his team “wow”ed us by pre-empting the business needs of not just his guests, but also the event organisers like us who are also responsible to deliver the “wow” experience for his guests too. Mr. Suppiah didn’t just made us feel special, in fact he and his team made sure every guest is special and enjoy the experience with them. It is such a “wow” MICE experience that really makes the Crowne Plaza THE Place to Meet.
While some may attribute to the better attitudes of the people in Xiamen when it comes to servicing customers, I believe that it is not just the natural abilities of the people to know what customers want, and then get it done before the customer says it. I believe it had been great leadership abilities on the part of the management of Crowne Plaza Paragon Xiamen that really raised the bar for all business hotels to emulate.
